LONDON: British telecoms company BT Group Plc. announced its broadband television service will be launched in the autumn and it will be called BT Vision.
The service provides for the customers to choose digital terrestrial television programmes and a range of on-demand films and TV and music programmes.
The company has already signed up with content developers like BBC Worldwide, Paramount, Big Brother producer Endemol, Warner Music Group, National Geographic Channel and with kids’ TV programming firm HIT Entertainment and Nelvana for content to be distributed through the channel.
BT claimed the service will be a world-first, combining access to digital-terrestrial channels through an aerial with broadband-powered video on demand. The whole content is to be delivered through a software platform powered by Microsoft and a set-top box made by Philips. Customers can have choice, control and convenience, BT said. There will be no minimum monthly subscription.
The company's chief executive of TV Services, Dan Marks, said BT Vision will be available nationwide. The company has started accepting registrations from interested customers on its website.
BT said BT Vision will be handled through BT Hub, the device which is at the heart of BT’s strategy for the converged home and which also allows wireless networking for the family’s PCs and laptops. Customers can also make up to five different telephone calls at the same time using voice over internet technology.
