WASHINGTON (AP) - Telecommunications company Sprint Nextel Corp. paid Joseph Group LLC $120,000 in the first half of 2007 to lobby the federal government, according to a disclosure form. The firm lobbied on issues related to the regulation of spectrum and wireless carriers, according to the form posted online Wednesday by the Senate's public records office.Telecommunications carriers are resisting efforts by several technology companies that want federal regulators to designate some spectrum as accessible to all types of devices. The technology companies say carriers restrict what services can be offered, but the wireless carriers argue consumers now get hundreds of application and service choices, reflecting sufficient competition.Besides Congress, Joseph Group lobbied the Commerce Department and the Federal Communications Commission.Under a federal law enacted in 1995, lobbyists are required to disclose activities that could influence members of the executive and legislative branches. They must register with Congress within 45 days of being hired or engaging in lobbying.Sprint Nextel is based in Reston, Va.Copyright 2007 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
