PARIS (Thomson Financial) - Nicolas Beytout, the new head of LVMH's new media unit, said he wants to 'develop' it and insisted that he will ensure the editorial independence of newly-acquired newspaper Les Echos. In an interview with Le Monde, the former editor in chief of Le Figaro said he will bring his experience to the management of Les Echos, without being in charge of the paper's editorial. He said he will ensure agreements signed with Les Echos' former owner Pearson and LVMH on editorial independence are maintained.Beytout said the best guarantee of independence he can give 'is what I did for three years at Le Figaro, where editorial staff had complete freedom with regard to the shareholder Serge Dassault.'helen.beresford@thomson.comafp/hem/jlcCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
