Cisco to buy Reactivity for $135 million |

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Cisco Systems Inc., a maker of routers and switches that direct data traffic over computer networks, agreed Wednesday to buy Reactivity Inc., a maker of switches for Internet connection technology, for $135 million in cash.Privately held Reactivity makes extensible markup language, or XML, gateways for business networks. Cisco said XML is becoming the standard protocol for a new model of Web-based applications.Cisco expects the deal to close in the three-month period ending April 28, pending regulatory approval.In electronic premarket trading, Cisco shares lost 11 cents to $27.55 after closing Tuesday at $27.66 on the Nasdaq Stock Market.Copyright 2006 Associated Press.
