ROME (AFX) - Italy's Prime Minister Romano Prodi has offered his resignation after his government lost a key foreign policy vote in parliament.President Giorgio Napolitano will start consultations with party leaders tomorrow before deciding whether to accept the resignation, the ANSA news agency reported.The president are serves his decision' on Prodi's move, a statement from his office said.Prodi resigned after his centre-left government failed to get a vote of support in parliament for a motion on his foreign policy.The motion, about troop deployment in Afghanistan and the enlargement of a US military base in northern Italy, needed 160 votes for approval, but only 158 senators voted in favour, while 136 voted against.newsdesk@afxnews.comafp/cmlCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2006.
