BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - Chinese airports reported passenger traffic growth of 16.7 pct in 2006 to 331.97 mln, the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC) said.Cargo throughput increased 19 pct to 7.53 mln tons, it said in a statement.China had 142 airports in operation at the end of 2006.Passenger traffic for domestic routes increased 17 pct to 299.34 mln in 2006 while international passengers increased 14.6 pct to 32.63 mln, the CAAC said.There were seven airports with passenger traffic surpassing 10 mln in 2006.Cargo handled for domestic and international routes totaled 5.04 mln tons and 2.49 mln tons, up 16.8 pct and 23.6 pct, it said.Airports in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou handled 58.2 pct of the country's cargo traffic.Aircraft movements totalled 3.49 mln, up 14.1 pct, the CAAC added.derek.jiang@xinhuafinance.com
