VIENNA (AFX) - Austrian chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer said it would be a 'catastrophe' if the takeover of Boehler-Uddeholm by UK private equity fund CVC Capital Partners were to take place.'This is not a statement against foreign ownership but because the company would become a pawn in the financial markets as a result (of the proposed takeover),' Gusenbauer told Austrian newspaper Der Kleine Zeitung today. The comment comes in the wake of yesterday's proposal by two leading industrialists a fund be established to prevent any further takeovers by foreign companies after CVC confirmed its interest in acquiring the special steel company on Monday.fiona.flanagan@thomson.comff/ms1COPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
