(updates to add Czech press report that Prague will not support Tosovsky)MOSCOW (Thomson Financial) - The Russian Finance Ministry announced that it has nominated former Czech central bank chief Josef Tosovsky to head the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Interfax reported.So far, Tosovsky's only rival for the position is the European Union's nominee Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who previously served as the French finance minister.However, the Czech government will continue to support the European Union nominee, finance minister Miroslav Kalousek told the aktualne.cz website.Tosovsky 'is not the candidate of the Czech Republic,' Kalousek said.'We are going to respect the conclusions of the European Union council of economy and finance ministers, which put forward Dominique Strauss-Kahn.'The IMF will accept nominations to replace outgoing managing director Rodrigo de Rato until the end of this month.The bank's executive board will interview candidates in September and select a replacement to take up the post in October.alfred.kueppers@thomson.comafp/amk/rfw/amk/rfwCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
