Syngenta forms research partnership in Australia for biofuels development |

ZURICH (Thomson Financial) - Syngenta said it has formed a research partnership in Australia to develop cost effective conversion of sugarcane bagasse into biofuels, in a move that will broaden the agribusiness's biofuels strategy into new crops.The agribusiness partners in this research are Queensland University of Technology (QUT), its technology transfer and commercialisation company qutbluebox and the Australian agbiotech company Farmacule BioIndustries.A Syngenta Centre for Sugarcane Biofuel Development will be established at QUT's campus in Brisbane.The Queensland Government will invest 5.1 mln aud towards the Syngenta centre, and for the development of a related bio-commodities pilot plant.
