NEW YORK (Thomson Financial) - Johnson & Johnson said Monday the analysis of data from a recent study found that its Cypher drug-eluting coronary stent had a lower risk of blood clots than the Taxus stent. The company's Cordis unit also said the study found Cypher patients were less likely to need another procedure at the same lesion site than ones receiving a Taxus stent. The data was from a 15-month study conducted by the Western Denmark Heart Registry, according to Cordis. The data is being presented at the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics 2007 meeting.Specifically, Cordis said the study found that patients receiving the Taxus stent, which is made by Boston Scientific, were 55% more likely to develop definite stent thrombosis than those receiving the Cypher stent. Also, Taxus patients were 32 percent more likely to need a repeat procedure than Cypher patients, according to the study.J&J shares closed Friday at $64.23.Michael BaronmbCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
