FRANKFURT (AFX) - Deutsche Telekom AG's restructuring plan could affect one-third of its employees, Ver.di trade union said.'We fear that up to 61,400 employees could be affected by the spin-off plans,' said union spokesman, Jan Jurczyk.That would be around 15,000 more than previously suggested, but Deutsche Telekom said that the new figures were 'pure invention'.The telecommunications giant said it aims to cut costs by spinning off some services activities, such as call-centres, into separate units.Deutsche Telekom's supervisory board was expected to approve the plans at a meeting next Wednesday, Jurczyk said.In addition, some 13,000 jobs could be affected by Deutsche Telekom's plans to sell off assets, Ver.di said.The union said it would stage protest against the plans, with a demonstration to be held in Bonn next week.patrizia.kokot@thomson.compk/jlcCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2006.
