Worker injured after crane boom falls |

PORT SHELDON, Mich. (AP) - A 300-foot crane boom fell Thursday morning onto a building at Consumers Energy's J.H. Campbell Generating Plant, injuring a contract employee inside the building, the utility company said.The worker, whose identity was not disclosed, was treated at a local hospital and released, Jackson-based Consumers Energy said in a statement.The crane fell onto the building that houses the complex's Unit 3 power plant. The complex sits alongside Lake Michigan in Port Sheldon, about 28 miles west of Grand Rapids.Neither the crane nor the generating unit, which was shut down for the installation of emissions-reduction equipment, was in operation at the time. About 100 Consumers Energy employees and contract employees were inside the building.The cause is under investigation but strong winds were gusting throughout the region when the crane fell.Consumers Energy, a subsidiary of CMS Energy Corp., provides natural gas and electricity in all 68 counties in the Lower Peninsula counties.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
