NEW YORK (AP) - Pfizer Inc. said Thursday that the U.S. Court of Appeals reversed a lower court ruling upholding the company's patent on blood pressure medication Norvasc. The ruling came on an appeal by Canadian generic drug maker Apotex Inc., which had challenged the patent. A federal court in the Northern District of Illinois had ruled Pfizer's patent was valid and enforceable. It is unclear if Apotex has U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval to launch the a cheaper, generic version of the blood pressure drug. The company didn't immediately return a call for comment.Pfizer expects to lose patent protection on the drug this September.Spokesman Bryant Haskins said Pfizer will try to get the appeals court ruling changed.Shares of Pfizer fell 15 cents to $25.70 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
