MILAN (Thomson Financial) - Fifteen hundred flights to and from Italy have been hit by the eight-hour strike by air traffic controllers, said Alitalia SpA.Alitalia pointed out that it does not employ the air traffic controllers.The number of Alitalia flights cancelled today was 394, as announced earlier, and included 30 flights cancelled because of a separate strike by Alitalia flight attendants, it said.'The strike by ENAV (air authority) flight controllers has not allowed any airline to fly between 10.00-18.00, penalising all national air transport and involving about 1,500 flights,' it said.Earlier today, the Assaereo association of airlines said it estimated the cost of the strike and the block on air traffic at 50 mln eur.nigel.tutt@thomson.comnt/jsaCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
