LISBON (AFX) - Prime minister Jose Socrates said that the Portuguese and Algerian governments support a strategic partnership between EDP Energias de Portugal SA and Algerian energy group Sonatrach, Diario Economico reported.'Sonatrach and EDP are studying a strategic partnership, which is supported by both governments,' the paper quotes Socrates as saying yesterday in Algiers, where he arrived to attend a Portugal-Algeria summit.'We already have a strategic cooperation with Algeria and we are committed in making that partnership be represented in our companies.'Sonatrach could acquire a 5 pct stake in EDP, the paper adds.luis.morais@thomson.comlm/anCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2006.
