HELSINKI (AFX) - Helsinki shares were slightly firmer in midday trade, with Outokumpu Technology leading the advancers on the back of a rise in copper prices, dealers said.At 12.26 pm, the OMX Helsinki 25 index was up 0.41 pct to 2,958.98 points, and the OMX Helsinki index was up 0.31 pct at 9,772.97 points, on a volume of 264 mln eur.Some 80 stocks were in positive terrain, while 48 were lower.Outokumpu Technology added 4.87 pct to 23.89 eur amid strength in the mining and metals sector. The company has a large share of the global market for copper-treatment equipment.There were also strong gains for steel stocks Outokumpu, up 2.38 pct to 28.81 eur, and Rautaruukki, up 2.05 pct to 29.89 eur.Metso gained 1.26 pct to 38.53 eur. The company is preparing to sell its Valmet automotive unit, today's Helsingin Sanomat reported.Forestries were in the red, with Stora Enso down 0.24 pct to 12.71 eur, UPM-Kymmene off 0.81 pct to 19.52 eur and M-real down 0.78 pct to 5.08 eur.Nokia was little changed --down 0.13 pct to 15.48 eur-- ahead of fourth-quarter earnings tonight from key supplier Texas Instruments and its own October-December results due out Thursday.Elsewhere, engineer Wartsila was up 1.29 pct to 42.31 eur and construction and maintenance services stock YIT up 1.98 pct to 21.11 eur.Utility Fortum advanced 0.85 pct to 21.32 eur.james.etheridge@afxnews.comje/icCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2006.
