General Cable gets $70 million contract |

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (AFX) - General Cable Corp., which supplies copper, aluminum and fiber optic wire and cable products to a variety of markets, on Monday said it received a $70 million contract from the Northeast Utilities Services Co. and United Illuminating Co.The contract calls for Silec Cable, a French subsidiary of General Cable, to provide cables and jointing components, as well as a complete set of services, including engineering, installation supervision, and onsite jointing to the Middletown-Norwalk, Conn., electric transmission project.Northeast Utilities and United Illuminating serve as joint leaders on the $1.3 billion project, which is slated for completion in 2009.General Cable shares fell 37 cents to close at $44.02 on the New York Stock Exchange.Copyright 2006 Associated Press.
