ZURICH (Thomson Financial) - Roche Holdings AG and its US partner Trimeris Inc said interim results from a study with anti-HIV drug Fuzeon indicate that the drug may reduce the level of HIV virus in patient's blood when used in combination with Darunavir and other anti-HIV drugs. The 24-week 'below the level of quantification' study evaluated the effectiveness of Fuzeon on 63 patients in the US and Australia. The results were presented at the International AIDS Society Conference in Sydney, Australia. When used in combination with other anti-HIV drugs, two-thirds of the patients achieved undetectable HIV, less than 50 copies per ml of blood, the companies said.Fuzeon, co-developed by Roche and Trimeris, is the first and only fusion inhibitor available for the treatment of HIV, while Darunavir is a commercially available, ritonavir-boosted protease inhibitor, marketed by Tibotec Therapeutics.sarah.fenwick@thomson.comsf/ejpCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
