MILAN (Thomson Financial) - Italian motorway traffic data for the second quarter was positive and in line with expectations, said Giovanni Castellucci, CEO of Atlantia SpA and of Autostrade per l'Italia SpA.He said the group is still interested in expansion and is looking at several countries. He identified South America and Eastern Europe as areas of interest. The CEO also called for regulatory certainty in the infrastructure sector, saying investments are made with a medium- to long-term view, of 30-40 years.Changes in motorway concessions rules was a key reason that a planned merger of Atlantia and Abertis Infraestructuras SA fell through earlier this year.'If one wants to attract investments, certainty over rules is fundamental otherwise the risk is of not being competitive,' he said, adding that in the motorway business, rules have been changed and this is still a problem. The CEO said this uncertainty has cost the group about one percentage point on its cost of capital.yael.schrage@thomson.comysc/wjCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
