LISBON (Thomson Financial) - Sonae SGPS unit Sonae Distribuicao said net profit surged 55 pct to 34 mln eur in the second quarter to June from 22 mln a year earlier, largely thanks to improving efficiency, with EBITDA increasing 35 pct to 68 mln eur on an increase in sales of just 8 pct.In a statement, Sonae Distribuicao said net profit was also boosted by a halving of its taxes to 1 mln eur from 2 mln, and despite a doubling of financial costs to 10 mln eur from 5 mln.jonathan.gleave@thomson.comjg/dca/jg/jlcCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
