Matson lowers some fuel surcharges |

HONOLULU (AFX) - Citing lower fuel prices, Matson Navigation Co. announced Monday that it is lowering its fuel surcharge for its Hawaii, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and Micronesia routes by 1.25 percentage points, to 17.5 percent, effective Jan. 28.'Following an extended period of rapidly escalating fuel costs, we have been encouraged by this recent ongoing downward trend. For customers this represents another decrease in shipping costs ranging from $25 to $80 per container,' said Dave Hoppes, senior vice president of ocean services.Hoppes said the company will continue to monitor fuel costs and adjust the fuel surcharge accordingly.The decrease is the company's third consecutive fuel surcharge reduction.----Copyright 2006 Associated Press.
