SYDNEY (XFN-ASIA) - Woodside Petroleum Ltd said its Pomboo-1 exploration well in Block L-5 of the offshoreLamu Basin in Kenya is been plugged and abandoned after failing to encounter hydrocarbons.The group, 34 pct owned by the Royal Dutch Shell group, said the well reached a total depth of 4,887 meters and did not detect hydrocarbons in the primary target zone between 4,685 meters and total depth.It said Pomboo-1 encountered in excess of 200 meters of moderate to good quality reservoir sandstones.The well is about 350 km north-east of Mombasa in 2,200 meters of water.Woodside is the operator in Block L-5 and has a 30 pct interest, UK's Dana Petroleum Plc 30 pct, Australia's Global Petroleum 20 pct and Spain's Repsol Exploracion SA 20 pct.bruce.hextall@xfn.com
