LONDON - Embattled British supermodel, Kate Moss, whose cocaine snorting exploits cost her a fortune in modeling contracts, was today defended by top celebrity photographer Mario Testino who said that he would be surprised if Moss was depressed over the whole issue.
"I have to say I'm not a witness to seeing her debauched or out of control. I know Kate very well and I don't think she's at all tormented, torrid, depressed," said Testino in an interview that is to be broadcast on BBC radio. Moss has lost out on a number of contracts after the Daily Mirror published pictures of her snorting cocaine in September.
The supermodel has since apologized to her friends, family and fans for her behaviour. Burberry, Swedish-based fashion house Hennes and Mauritz and French company Chanel jettisoned her contracts after the pictures were published.
"There is a moment when everyone wants to just lose that little bit of control. Who knows? Maybe that was her moment and we just happened to see that moment and all of a sudden we're judging out of 10 minutes the life of somebody and destroying it. I don't think life is so black and white," Testino defended his favorite model.
Moss is currently in a US rehab facility and is trying to recover from her addiction. Pirelli has retained Moss for the 2006 calendar spread and Testino's defense will indeed serve to calm her down. Danish supermodel Helena Christensen and American actress Sharon Stone have also defended Moss over the drug allegations.
Testino is famed for his pictures of late Princess Diana, Madonna and Elizabeth Hurley, but has always maintained that Moss was his favorite model. "Since 15 till today, she's never not been there on a shoot, never said to me 'I'm tired, I don't want to work', never. She works from eight in the morning till 12 at night if need be," Testino commented.
