LONDON (Thomson Financial) - E.On AG unit Central Networks (CN) said it restored power to thousands of householders and businesses hit by flooding in western England.E.On said CN engineers restored power to more than 14,000 homes left without electricity in Gloucestershire after the power distribution company's Castle Mead sub-station flooded early Monday.CN decided to cut off supplies to more than 40,000 customers to minimise damage to the substation from rising flood waters, enabling it to restore power more quickly after the water had been pumped out.More than 25,000 homes and businesses had power restored through the day on Monday, with the final customers coming back on at 1.45 am on Tuesday.CN's managing director John Crackett said water levels around the plant remained high.CN is the new name for Midlands Electricity and East Midlands Electricity. It has 4.9 mln customers across central England.philip.waller@thomson.compaw/vsCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
