(AP) - Among the earnings stories for Wednesday, Oct. 24, from AP Financial News:

ATLANTA (AP) -- Oilfield services provider RPC Inc. said Wednesday its third-quarter profit dropped by nearly half, as prices and equipment use fell.

PHOENIX (AP) -- Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc., one of the world's biggest copper miners, said Wednesday its profit more than doubled in the third quarter as revenue soared.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) -- Corning Inc. said Wednesday its third-quarter profit rose 41 percent on strong demand for glass used in flat-panel televisions but warned that its performance in the current quarter will fall short of Wall Street's expectations.

POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) -- AMIS Holdings Inc., parent company of specialized microchip maker AMI Semiconductor, said Wednesday it is reviewing the way it valued inventories earlier this year.

CHICAGO (AP) -- Gum and candy maker Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co. said Wednesday that third-quarter profit rose 11 percent on strong international growth and a weak dollar. But results fell just short of expectations and Wrigley's stock tumbled.

CHICAGO (AP) -- Media conglomerate Tribune Co. said Wednesday its third-quarter earnings dropped 7 percent as the housing slump and lower consumer spending worsened an ongoing decline in advertising revenue from its newspapers.

MIAMI (AP) -- Trucking company Ryder System Inc. said Wednesday its third-quarter earnings rose slightly but missed Wall Street expectations, as revenue from its fleet management solutions segment slipped.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- Cullen/Frost Bankers Inc.'s profit soared 13 percent in the third quarter as the bank expanded its loan portfolio and earned more for managing clients' investments, the company said Wednesday.
