GE Energy wins $1.8B in Mideast pacts |

ATLANTA (AP) - GE Energy on Wednesday said it has received contracts worth more than $1.8 billion to supply 32 gas turbines and additional equipment for power plant projects in Kuwait and Qatar.The projects will add more than 5 gigawatts of capacity to help meet the Middle East's growing demand for electricity, the company said.With the new deals, GE Energy said it has received orders and commitments totaling more than $3.5 billion for Middle East projects since December.The company also is establishing new power generation offices in the Middle East to coordinate project management for the region.Shares of GE Energy parent General Electric Co. added 37 cents to $40.59.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
