COVINGTON, Ky. (AFX) - Chemical company Ashland Inc. said Thursday it named Barry W. Perry a board director.Perry's term will expire at the annual shareholders meeting in 2008, the company said. He will serve on the environmental, health and safety and personnel and compensation committees.Perry, 60, was chairman and chief executive at metal and chemical manufacturer Englehard Corp. until he retired in 2006.Before joining Englehard, he worked at pharmaceutical and chemical company Rhone-Poulenc and General Electric Co.Perry is also on the board of directors at Arrow Electronics Inc., which makes electronic and computer components, and Cookson Group PLC, which supplies materials to the electronics industry.Ashland shares fell 71 cents to $67.67 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange.Copyright 2006 Associated Press.
