ZURICH (Thomson Financial) - Roche Holdings AG said a phase IIIb trial indicates that its HIV drug Invirase is as effective as the commonly used protease inhibitor Kaletra on HIV patients. In addition, fewer patients given Invirase showed developed elevated triglyceride levels, which is associated with an increase in a person's risk of cardiovascular or cerebrovascular disease, said the Swiss pharma giant. The findings from the trial, involving 337 patients, showed that patients treated with Invirase had similar levels of viral suppression as those treated with Kaletra, which is manufactured by US company Abbott Laboratories.huimin.neo@thomson.comhmn/roCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
