LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Bombardier Transportation, a unit of Bombardier Inc, has signed a joint venture agreement with Russian rail technology manufacturer Transmashholding to develop advanced propulsion technology, it announced in a statement.The two companies will build a engineering centre in Moscow to develop rolling stock and associated equipment for customers in Russia and in other countries, Bombardier said.They will also work together in a production joint venture to make a family of traction converters based on Bombardier's Mitrac propulsion technology, it added.The manufacturing centre, which will be based at Transmashholding's plant in Novocherkassk in Russia, has a target of producing at least 600 converters for a new generation of locomotives with asynchronous propulsion by 2012.Both engineering and production joint ventures will be owned equally by Bombardier Transportation and Transmashholding, and the two partners will together invest a total of 12.5 mln eur in both joint ventures, Bombardier said.paul.sandle@thomson.comps/jagCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
