LONDON - Internet Service Provider Be has announced the launch of its ADSL2+ broadband service after conducting a brief but successful trial. Besides getting uninterrupted 24-hour access, customers can also get a free, wireless Be Box modem.
The whole package has been priced at 24 per month in addition to a £24 connection fee. "We are thrilled to be the first ISP to roll-out 24 Meg broadband in the UK. For anyone wanting to get the most from the internet, this is an absolute must - at £24 per month Be is simply better value than any other broadband service from any other provider," said Dana Pressman, managing director of Be.
The ‘Be home 24 meg’ has been billed as the UK's fastest broadband service. However, only those users whose homes and businesses are close to the local exchange can avail this service, as the speeds drop to the standard 1 Mbps beyond the range of 2 km.
"This radically advanced capability will change the way people use their computers and opens up a world of opportunities as exciting as the advent of broadband itself," Pressman enthused. Be has been conducting trials of the service since September and after achieving considerable success has decided to launch this scheme, which will be available across the greater part of London.
Paul Smyth, Be spokesman said that the service would cover the whole of UK in about a year's time. "Be is relatively pioneering when you consider people are still announcing one meg unlimited broadband and we are making available up to 24meg connections at only just over twice the price," he explained. He said that Be was trying to be competitive not only in the pricing sphere but also by way of unique technology.
But the talking point is the pricing which is £5 less than that charged by Be rivals Bulldog and UK Online.
