There is good news for the health conscious and calorie conscious people all over the world. The world’s largest fast food major McDonalds is all set to publish information regarding the calorie and fat content of its food items prescribed on its menu.
The fast food major had come in for some severe criticism over its food items. It was believed that the food served at McDonalds was unhealthy and led to obesity. The fast food giant is all set to put these doubts to rest. Once the nutrition details are known, people would have no problem in enjoying the mouth watering delicacies like a Big Mac or dishes with a huge cheese spread.
The government and the consumer groups are making it mandatory for the food processing industry to publish information on the nutritional value. McDonalds is no exception to this. A good balanced food intake lays the foundation for a healthy lifestyle.
The CEO of McDonalds, Jim Skinner asserted that the fast food major is trying its level best to provide the best food keeping the interests of the people in mind. He explained that McDonalds had a very loyal client base and it would try its best to serve them.
This new move would be started in the first half of 2006. Initially, it would be introduced in all the outlets of North America, Latin America, Asia and Europe. By the end of the year 2006, McDonalds plans to implement this scheme in more than 80 percent of its worldwide outlets. It is a move in the right direction after a lawsuit was imposed on the fast food major holding it responsible for the increasing obesity among the teenagers. However, the lawsuit was dismissed.
The information based on the nutritional value would be quite elaborate. It would be studded with bar charts and icons displaying the amount of calories against each item. This move has been welcomed by many health organizations. The wrappers and boxes of the products would display the calories, carbohydrates, proteins, fats and the sodium content.
Concern over nutrition led to a dip in sales in UK. McDonalds is also aggressively selling fruit and walnut salads and chicken sandwiches to woo customers who keep away from burgers and fries. Jim Skinner, the man at the helm of affairs is quite confident that this move would be welcomed by all the customers.
