LONDON: Subscribers to Telewest’s broadband network in Scotland will be among the lucky first to get their service upgraded to 10MBPS. The service users who are now on 2 and 4MBPS will get the high speed service without any change in the monthly £35 fee. The upgradation is expected to be completed by next month.
Subscribers who use the 0.5MBPS service will be upgraded to 2MBPS and those using 1MBPS to 4MBPS. Areas like Castlecary, Dumbarton, Uddingston and Motherwell top of the network’s list of places slated to get the high speed broadband. All Scottish subscribers will be upgraded by the yearend.
Its customers in London are not to be left behind: 100,000 subscribers will get their service boosted to 10meg by the end of this month.
Meanwhile Be is also planning an even higher speed for its UK customers. It had already offered a trial of its DSL-based 24meg service a few months ago in the capital. The British-owned company had earlier this month launched a trial run of its high-speed broadband. Be offered the service ‘free’ throughout September, after which they would be entitled to the service for a small fee of £20 a month for life. At 24meg Be’s service would be the fastest in the UK.
