(Updating with comments on life and non-life business)MILAN (Thomson Financial) - Unipol said it expects its net profit in the first half of the year to be 'significantly higher' than its net profit in the same period last year.The group posted a net profit of 187.6 mln eur in the first half of 2006.Unipol said its non-life business in the period grew significantly, thanks mainly to the very positive performance of the non-auto segment.The company said its life insurance business was affected by the non-renewal of certain corporate policies, but gave no details.The net profit of the insurer's banking arm Unipol Banca improved on the first six months of last year, but no figures were given.Unipol said first-half results will be examined by the board on Sept 13.stephen.jewkes@thomson.comsj/jag//cmrCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
