SHANGHAI (XFN-ASIA) - Foreign institutions under the Qualified Foreign Institutional Investors programme held A-shares with a market value of 97.1 bln yuan at the end of 2006, the China Securities Journal reported, citing data released at an industry meeting.This means QFII remained the second largest source of institutional investment on the domestic stock market, after mutual funds, the paper said.China has so far granted quotas of 9.545 bln usd to 54 QFIIs, which can be invested in yuan-denominated A-shares and bonds. The issued quotas are close to the QFII program cap of 10 bln usd, it added(1 usd = 7.8 yuan)qionghui.feng@xinhuafinance.com
