BOURNEMOUTH, England (Thomson Financial) - British Prime Minister Gordon Brown called for an urgent UN Security Council meeting on the situation in Myanmar, saying 'the world is now watching' as the military junta there started a crackdown on pro-democracy demonstrators.Speaking to reporters at the Labour Party conference here, Brown said he hoped the Security Council would 'meet immediately, meet today and discuss this issue and look at what can be done'.'The first thing that should be done is the UN envoy should be sent to Burma to make them directly aware that any trampling of human rights that takes place is unacceptable,' he said, using Myanmar's former name.TFN.newsdesk@thomson.comfp/ajbCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
