Nissan, Renault, India's Bajaj teaming up to make cheap car for emerging markets |

TOKYO (Thomson Financial) - The chief executive of both Japan's Nissan Motor Co and France's Renault SA, Carlos Ghosn, said Friday his companies will team up with Indian motorcycle maker Bajaj Auto Ltd to produce a low-priced small car for the rapidly growing Indian market.The car could be introduced as soon as 2010, Ghosn said.Bajaj will be asked to build the car at its plant in India, and Ghosn will visit Bajaj on Monday to discuss the project.Each vehicle will cost about 2,500 US dollars to manufacture, a Nissan spokesman said.On Wednesday, Ghosn said Nissan and Renault will consider exporting the low-cost car to other emerging markets eventually.yumiko.nishitani@thomson.comyas/yas/jmCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
