BRUSSELS (Thomson Financial) - Several retailers have lodged complaints against Agfa Gevaert NV's photo division for fraud, according to Agence France-Presse.At a hearing in Nanterre, France, a prosecution lawyer said that a complaint was filed on Oct 5.The complaint arises from when retailers bought photo developing machines from an intermediary from Agfa-Gevaert's Consumer Imaging department. The market explosion for digital photography rendered the machines less sellable. Agfa decided to split from Consumer Imaging in 2004, creating a new and independent division called Agfa-Photo.The complainants received a letter in Oct 2004 informing them of the restructuring. But one year later, Agfa-Photo France became insolvent.A prosecution lawyer said the retailers turned to Agfa for maintenance of the machines, but it was explained to them that Agfa-Photo no longer had anything to do with the group. An Agfa spokesman in Belgium told Thomson Financial News that it had not received the complaint.A spokesperson told AFP that Agfa informed clients that it was selling Consumer Imaging to a different group in 2004.'After that, Agfa-Photo was not our responsibility any more, because it was not our company,' the spokesperson added.nina.chestney@thomson.comnc/rwCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
