LANSING, Mich. (AP) - State workers would get no pay increase in the next budget year under contract proposals now being voted on.The agreements with four unions representing most of the state's unionized workers wouldn't give workers an increase until October 2009, when they would get 1 percent more. The tentative contract also includes a 3 percent increase that workers would get in October 2010.State workers will have to pay more in health care premiums, deductibles and co-pays for health care services under the contracts, which would take effect Oct. 1, 2008. Current layoff and reduction in hours language was maintained, according to the Web site of United Auto Workers Local 6000, which represents about 17,000 state employees. The tentative contract agreement was reached last week. Voting runs until late November.State unionized workers got a 4 percent raise effective Oct. 1, part of a three-year deal that saw pay go up 10 percent overall. Some workers also have been required to buy generic prescription drugs instead of costlier brand-name versions under the current contract.Copyright 2007 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
