(Updating with news the UN court cleared Serbia of responsibility for Srebrenica massacre)THE HAGUE (AFX) - The UN's top court today cleared Serbia of direct responsibility for the 1995 Srebrenica genocide of Bosnian Muslims, but said Belgrade had violated international law by failing to prevent the massacre.'The court finds that Serbia has not committed genocide,' Rosalyn Higgins, the president of the International Court of Justice, said.In the same ruling, the court judged that the Srebrenica massacre was an act of genocide, but one that 'cannot be attributable to the respondent (Serbia)'.The court added that although Serbia had violated its obligations to Bosnia because it did not try to prevent the massacre of 8,000 Bosnian Muslims, Belgrade would not have to pay financial compensation.newsdesk@afxnews.comafp/cmrCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
