Aurobindo Pharma gets Metformin marketing nod from South Africa regulators |

MUMBAI (Thomson Financial) - India's Aurobindo Pharma Ltd has received marketing authorization approval from Medicines Control Council (MCC) of South Africa for Metformin tablets in 500mg, 850mg and 1 gm strengths, it said in a notice to the Bombay Stock Exchange.Metformin was originally discovered by Bristol-Myers Squibb Co, and is mostly used in Type 2 diabetes especially in obese and insulin resistance cases.It helps to increase insulin sensitivity and decreases absorption of glucose from Gastro Intestinal tract, the pharmaceutical company said.Aurobindo is already marketing Metformin successfully in the US.ami.shah@thomson.comami/raCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
