BERLIN (Thomson Financial) - Deutsche Bahn AG said it is planning to form an alliance with six other European railway companies this year in a bid to win passengers from budget airlines, Deutsche Bahn board member Karl-Friedrich Rausch told reporters. He said the alliance, called Railteam, will include train companies from France, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands and the UK railway firm Eurostar. No cross shareholdings are planned under the proposed alliance, which aims to simplify cross border bookings and transfers via the internet, among other things.'Up to now it is difficult to make an online booking for cross border train travel even though this something routine for flights,' Rausch said.marilyn.gerlach@thomson.comdp/mog/jagCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
