LONDON: Britain's largest commercial broadcaster ITV is partnering mobile phone company 3 UK to provide hit shows on mobile phones to some 3.2 million users of 3.

The partnership, with a year-long operational span will enable the mobile users to watch live television, beginning with the latest series of I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. Later they will have access to highlights from ITV shows including The X Factor, Emmerdale, Coronation Street and others.

It will cost 50 pence to download a video clip. While details of the revenue-sharing agreement were not disclosed, ITV said the deal can lead to increased interactive revenues than last year's 31 million pounds.

ITV runs its own mobile portal and British mobile users without 3G handsets can also download some of the content. The existing Vodafone-Sky tie-up allows only subscribers to Vodafone's 3G network to access video content from an initial selection of 19 Sky channels, of which five are broadcast live.

3, which is Hutchison Whampoa's U.K. 3G mobile operator, said the television content will be tailored to mobiles and will include highlights and behind-the-scenes footage, besides previews of the Bush Tucker trials in I'm A Celebrity, even before these are shown on television. 3 already runs a similar service in partnership with mobile TV provider MobiTV.

ITV plans similar deals with other mobile service providers.

ITV's chief executive Charles Allen said people increasingly want to get want to get the latest gossip and content between shows.
