LONDON - Comedian Nick Hancock is joining a mortgage broker as a managing director, it was announced today. Hancock, who is best known for hosting BBC sport quiz They Think It's All Over will be joining South Yorkshire-based Earth Mortgages in September.

Lee Mack will take his place in They Think It’s All Over. Hancock was enthusiastic about his new job, "Many people have just one career. I’m lucky, I continue to be active in television and comedy, but now I’m also getting down to business," he was quoted as saying. Earth Mortgages' founders Mick Worthington and Darren Millington are personal friends and Hancock felt that he would benefit from a change of careers.

However, the comedian said that he would continue to pursue his television career alongside his new role in Earth Mortgages. The company was founded in 2002 and employs 200 staff. It processes £150 million of mortgage and loan applications each year.

Commenting on acquiring Hancock to work for the company, Mr. Worthington, managing director of Earth Mortgages said, "We couldn’t be more pleased to have Nick on board. He’s a good guy, and a well-known figure that people trust." Hancock began his career in the entertainment industry as the president of the Cambridge Footlights, a university comedy troupe that was home to leading lights such as Stephen Fry and Emma Thompson. Hancock then switched over to the presentation side of things with Room 101 before moving on to They Think It's All Over. He was the host for the show for nearly a decade. He was in the news when he forked out £20,000 for the FA Cup winner's medal awarded to Sir Stanley Matthews in 1953 at an auction.
