LONDON - James Blunt was the winner in the International Hit of the Year and Most Performed Work categories at the 51st Ivor Novello Awards for songwriters held at London's Grosvenor House Hotel.
Blunt, who picked up the awards for his single 'You're Beautiful' appeared to be less than delighted when he collected the Most Performed Work trophy. "I should probably be rude about it before anyone else is, so thank you very much for the Most Overplayed Song award," he said.
KT Tunstall won the award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically for 'Suddenly I See.' This song pipped Coldplay's 'Fix You' and the Arctic Monkey's 'I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor'. Tunstall was delighted with the win, "I started writing songs when I was 15. It's amazing that you're sitting in your room doing something you like doing and suddenly it turns into all this," she said when accepting the trophy. The 30-year-old Tunstall's hit song is featured in the album Eye To The Telescope.
Wires by London band Athlete won in the best contemporary song category. The Kaiser Chiefs' Employment picked up the best album prize, while New Order won the outstanding song collection award.
