MADRID (AFX) - Enel SpA is considering buying 5-10 pct of Endesa SA, elConfidencial.com reported, citing unnamed electricity sector sources.

The speculation comes in the wake of comments this morning from Industry Minister Joan Clos on a local radio station that there still could be some Spanish solution to scupper E.ON AG's takeover of the utility.

Clos said the option of a pact between Endesa's core shareholders to control the company 'has more probability' of success than E.ON's bid, and said that the German power group will find it have ry difficult' to obtain the majority vote it needs to eliminate the poison pills in Endesa's statutes.

An Enel spokesman said the company 'does not comment on market rumours'.

Dealers said the Italian company's Endesa stake buy is being handled by UBS.

Some local news agencies are saying the Italian company could buy up to 25 pct of Endesa and that an order to buy 10 pct in the market has already been given.

A dealer at a local brokerage said: 'There is a lot of speculation...but from what I am hearing it could be true.'

Last October Enel denied similar reports in Spanish media that it was interested in a 10-20 pct stake in Endesa.
