OSLO (AFX) - Statoil ASA said it has found gas at its first exploration well at the Hassi Mouina licence in the Sahara desert in Algeria.The Norwegian oil giant said that through a 32/64-inch choke, the well had yielded a flow rate of 7,083 cubic metres of gas per hour at a depth of 1,131-1,142 metres.At a depth of 1,113-1,129 metres, Statoil said the gas flow had been even greater, at 9,012 cubic metres.Statoil is the operator of the field, with a 75 pct stake, while Algeria's Sonatrach holds the remaining 25 pct.The Hassi Mouina licence consists of four blocks within an area of 23,000 sq km in the Gourara basin.The area lies in Algeria's western desert, northwest of the 'In Salah' gas field, in which Statoil has a 31.85 pct stake.alastair.reed@thomson.comar/icCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
