LONDON: Those who did not get tickets for the huge Live 8 concert in London scheduled to be held this Saturday need not despair. You still have a chance to be present at Hyde Park after city authorities agreed to allocate more audience space at the famed venue.
Organizers immediately announced that they would release an extra 55,000 free tickets for the star-studded concert. In keeping with the spirit of the occasion, organizers also said that the concert would be extended by another 90 minutes and would now end at 9:30 p.m. (2030 GMT). Music legends Coldplay, U2 and Pink Floyd are all scheduled to perform at the July 2 London concert.
The 55,000 extra tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis at four ticket offices in London plus in six locations across Britain from 3 p.m. (1400 GMT) on Wednesday. The demand for the tickets has been unprecedented with 2 million applications being put in by mobile phone text for the initial 150,000 tickets.
Commenting on the craze for the tickets, organizer Bob Geldof said, "This is going to be the biggest even in Hyde Park's history and the biggest ticketed event ever in the UK." Hyde Park will remain closed to the general public keeping in mind the huge size of the concert.
Tickets in London are available at Carling Hammersmith Apollo, The Apollo Victoria, The Dominion Theatre and at Stargreen Tickets in Argyll Street.
In the rest of the UK, tickets can be taken at Birmingham Alexandra Theatre, the Bristol Hippodrome, Cardiff International Arena, Manchester Palace Theatre, the Oxford New Theatre and at Southampton Guildhall.
The London concert is one of the eight planned concerts to be held worldwide. The organizers want to focus the attention of the world on the plight of African nations through their music. Other concerts are being held at Paris, Rome, Philadelphia, Tokyo, Johannesburg, Toronto and Berlin.
