Crazy Frog, that insanely popular ringtone which remained on UK’s top singles chart for four weeks, was yesterday pushed to second place. The new number one song is ‘Ghetto Gospel’ by 2Pac featuring Sir Elton John.
Over the last month, people were divided over whether to hate the Crazy Frog or love it. Its creator Daniel Malmedahl is quite proud of his ‘creation’. The ringtone was freely circulated on the web until ‘Jamster’ the ringtone company contacted him for his permission to sell his work. Axel F, the single based on this ringtone swept across the UK and refused to hop off its ‘top of the charts’ position. Currently, there are any number of sites seeking votes on whether you hate the annoying sound or think it to be genius.
The single ‘Ghetto Gospel’ made it to the top of the chart eight years after the death of its creator 2Pac rap legend 2Pac.
Axel F, in turn, pushed James Blunt’s ‘You’re Beautiful’ down to number three. The singles chart had two new entries: ‘Slow Down’ by Bobby Valentino at number four and ‘Roc Ya Body’ by MVP at number five. Interestingly, Coldplay’s ‘Speed of Sound’ which vied for the top spot on the charts, was pushed to number 29. Coldplay’s lead singer Chris Martin had for the past four weeks been tearing his hair off at being denied the top spot by one crazy frog.
The band however managed to retain top spot with their ‘X and Y’ in the UK’s albums chart. James Blunt’s ‘Back to Bedlam’ rose to number two and Jamiroquai followed with their ‘Dynamite’ at number three. The earlier number two ranker ‘In Your Honour’ by the Foo Fighters dropped to number four and ‘Forever Faithless’ - the collection of greatest hits by Faithless remained at number five spot.
