TOKYO (Thomson Financial) - Japan's fifth-largest auto maker Mazda Motor Corp said Tuesday its global output dropped 8.1 percent on an annualised basis to 100,472 vehicles in July, marking the sixth straight month of decline as production shrinks in China and Japan.Production in China dropped following the termination of its assembly contract with a Chinese company earlier this year, while production in Japan was hit by the aftermath of an earthquake.The Hiroshima-based Japanese car maker suspended part of its domestic production for several days after a powerful earthquake on July 16 paralysed the flagship plant of Riken Corp, a major supplier of key engine components to all Japanese car makers.The company gave the following output, sales and export data for July, with year-on-year percentage changes:Domestic vehicle output - down 4.0 percent at 82,361 unitsDomestic passenger car output - down 2.5 percent at 78,014 unitsDomestic vehicle sales - down 3.7 percent at 21,620 unitsDomestic passenger car sales - up 0.2 percent at 18,177 unitsExports - down 10.3 percent at 61,816 unitsOverseas output - down 23.3 percent at 18,066 unitsGlobal production - down 8.1 percent at 100,427 units(1 US dollar = 115.67 yen)yumiko.nishitani@thomson.comyas/jgCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
