SINGAPORE (Thomson Financial) - United Nations special envoy Ibrahim Gambari was in Singapore Friday on his way to Myanmar, the city-state's foreign ministry said.Gambari has been sent by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to try to open dialogue between the ruling junta and pro-democracy activists after a deadly crackdown on anti-government protests in Myanmar's main city, Yangon.Ban called on Myanmar authorities 'to engage in a constructive dialogue with his special adviser and to commit to a path of peaceful and inclusive national reconciliation.'Singapore is the current chair of the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which also includes Myanmar.In unusually sharp language ASEAN foreign ministers, who met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, expressed their are vulsion' after nine people were killed and hundreds arrested in the crackdown on Thursday.Among the dead was a Japanese journalist.afp/zrzr/zrCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
